The Air Ambulances

Here at Bucking Horses we are supporting two air ambulance services for the North – the Yorkshire and Great North Air Ambulances.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA)

It will probably surprise you to know that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a charity which relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire.

It only receives government help through the secondment of paramedics from the NHS, through the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

To keep its two air ambulances in the air it needs to raise £12,000 per day, the equivalent of £4.4 million per year.  As a rapid response air emergency service the YAA serves a population of approximately five million people across four million acres. The two Air Ambulances operate from The Nostell Priory Estate near Wakefield and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk and together both helicopters are able to reach anywhere in Yorkshire within 12 to 15 minutes.  This rapid response time can make all the difference in saving lives.

The Great North Air Ambulance

The GNAA operates three helicopters serving an eight thousand square mile area as well as running two specially equipped paramedic vehicles. As with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, they rely entirely on donations.

Last year it cost more than £5m to keep the service running to save lives.
