Welcome to buckinghorses.co.uk, where we are raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Great North Air Ambulance and Spinal Research. My name is Tara Stewart and these charities became very close to my heart after I fell from my horse and broke my neck in 2014. Lying in a field, surrounded by open countryside, there was no way a normal ambulance could have reached me and, undiscovered as I had been for five and a half hours, time was of the essence. The air ambulance saved my life.
Now, I find myself tetraplegic and in a wheelchair, paralysed from the chest down so I have a first-hand understanding of the absolute devastation to a life an injury like this can cause. As such I believe very passionately in the work of Spinal Research to fund a cure into spinal-cord injury. Previously considered medically impossible, the last few years have seen some big breakthroughs in this area and scientists now believe it will be possible to cure paralysis. What’s needed now is more funding to drive further research and trials of the most promising therapies. For the latest areas, please check out the Spinal Research website.
I trust this brief explanation also explains why the site is called bucking horses.co.uk, especially when pronounced in a tone halfway between exasperation and annoyance….
So far I’m delighted to be able to say that the fundraising total stands at just over £100,000. Limited edition, framed and unframed prints of ‘A Dirty Day at Duncombe Park’, above and greetings cards, below, both by the international artist, David Howell are still available.
Each print is one of a limited edition of 750, numbered and signed by the artist and all profits from their sale will go to the YAA and Spinal Research. Framed prints are £275 and measure 70 x 80cm. Unframed prints are £150 and measure 40 x 50 cm.
The cards are from two further original oils and come in packs of ten, five of each design. They are £12.75 a pack and the profits from these will go to the Great North and Yorkshire Air Ambulances. Dimensions are 145mm square.
